篷酒店,野奢 – 超然世外的篷酒店設計

The Legend of Tent-International Design Competition of Tent Hotel

主辦單位: AIM (Architect in Mission)

Since 2005, the hotel industry in China is developing in a high speed, with the growth of disposable wealth Per capita, more and more families are devoting their attention on lifestyle vacations. To meet these requirements, there are growing trends of tourist hotels in scenic spots. However being always a heavy impact on the ecological environment, especially in remote naturally sensitive areas, hotel architectures in terms of energy consumption, pollution and carbon footprints accumulated in the construction make us worry.

In order to explore new model of lifestyle vacation and promote sustainable development concepts, AIM competition are presenting ecological tent hotel design theme. Setting virtual sites at three landscapes including the foot of Badaling Great Wall, South Peak Hengshan, Changbai Mountain Forest Sea, we are calling architects to propose tent-themed hotels which can adapt to various climates, convenient to build up, with local cultural flavors and inspire a new style of holiday.

The Great Wall plays an important role in Chinese history and its identity. It is also a precious example how architecture can become a “part of the Earth”, architecture that succeeded to put down roots. Many tourists and travelers come here to admire this manmade masterpiece that follows the specific topography and offers breathtaking views on the scenery of the Badaling landscape.

The provided site happens to be a part of this unique landscape, not far from the Great Wall. That is the reason why our design focuses on the nature- friendly, sustainable architecture where people will become really close to the nature.

Future hotel vision

According to WHO more than half of all people live in an urban area nowadays. By 2030, 6 out of 10 people will live in a city. That is why we believe that in the future, people will tend to spend more time outside the cities. And so the experience of a stay in the nature, sleeping under the tent will become a great adventure.

Our design characteristics can be summed up as follows:

  1. Emphasise the nature

The nature is the biggest treasure of the site so it became the main concept of our design. We lead people to experience the nature. The traditional interior space is minimized and replaced by tents. Thanks to the flexibility and translucent features of the fabric of the tent structure we can experience the nature better than in the traditional solid structures. All hotel rooms so as the lobby and restaurant have the space connected with the outside by the tent structures so it creates a unique and unusual atmosphere. We take people to the nature but we still keep them in the comfort they need.

2.  Following the seasonal changes

To limit the energy consumption part of the volumes are placed under the ground. During the seasonal changes, guests can easily open or close parts of the tents to adjust ventilation as well as they can use the fireplace to heat the interior according to their needs. The chimney of the fireplace is also used as a main structure for the tent.

3.  Eco-friendly materials and solutions

To minimize the impact on the environment we avoid the use of concrete as much as possible. Thanks to the translucent features of the fabric used for the tents we could also avoid the use of big glass surfaces.  All underground structures use double stone walls with a ventilation gab in between the two layers to deal with humidity from the ground. The parking level structure is made by steel columns and stone walls and in the upper level of the lobby wooden columns and stone walls are used.

設計概念:

The tent hotel is built in an ecological way to provide a new local experience on luxurious vacations and be mobile in the sense that it can leave the area where it was constructed, without damaging to the environment.
From the three possible locations this hotel will be in the cold Changbai mountain area. The innovative challenge for the tent hotel lies in making luxurious tent spaces in this climate without harming its environment and optimizes a hotel experience for a wide audience.

To reach this goal the hotel possesses the ability to adapt to its environment, whatever this environment might be. To do so it needs to reflect its surrounding elements and translate this knowledge into architectural space. A thorough understanding of the environment is obtained through targeted research on a rich element of the environment, the Changbai Pine, also known as the beauty pine. It is a very rare species of trees only found close to this area, with a marvelous appearance. As the slender tree is scattered throughout the area it creates a roof of needle shaped leaves on a forest of columns. It obtains its energy through its roots deep from the soil, where it gets its stability from so it can grow to high heights. The leaves are needle like, this prevents loosing to much energy in this cold climate. The branches are arranged in such a way that they catch the most sunlight possible. The pinecone is an interactive shield for the seed, which opens when it gets warmer. The irregular density of trees creates spaces on the ground level because of the different limitations of sight.

These spaces are being used. A public space where people meet and gather in the middle of nature with the sense of freedom. They form the core of the hotel, divided into four large spaces needed for a high-class hotel, covered with translucent skin and the tent structure creates freedom in experience and design.

Moving through these spaces the visitor will have an intense experience of the natural environment. Instead of the unilateral vertical classification of privacy in a normal hotel, this hotel possesses a transformation from public to intimate space in two dimensions. The slopes in the landscape provide this horizontal sequence, and form the boundaries of the hotel area.

Towers that contain the hotel rooms form the tents construction. They reach for the sky along with the beauty pine, to get to a height where the wider environment can be observed from the rooms. The trees provide different characters of space in vertical sense. The shape of the building is created through an arrangement of demountable platforms that follows the Fibonacci series to provide as much light on every floor as possible, just like the branches of a tree. By following the golden ratio, the dimensions of each space are proportional to create a sense of unity in the hotel, a practical arrangement of spaces and a total freedom in combinations of floors to form different types of rooms. A constructional core goes deeply into the ground to obtain the earth’s energy, to release into the tower to heat it. The outside skin reduces the amount of surface that is in contact with the outside air to minimize energy loss. The inside skins protect the private spaces again and can be opened to reach a comfortable and stable room temperature and the desired space. This hotel is the embodiment of the layers of its natural surrounding to create diversity and adaptability.
